My name is Caidence Ryder and I am part of the New Visions Business Academy. With this academy we are given the opportunity to job shadow different businesses in the area to gain experience in the business field. For my last job shadow experience, I was able to be a student intern at The Agency for three weeks. Over the course of those three weeks, I have learned so many things about The Agency that I did not know before. I got to attend the Community Building Series: State of Our Industries event where I sat with local entrepreneurs and learned that there is an issue in Broome County with our youth’s work ethic and the lack of students that want to go into trades. In addition, I also got to attend weekly meetings with the staff and met one on one with the employees to learn about their positions at The Agency. By doing this, I realized how much hard work, dedication, and patience it takes to be the lead driver of economic development in Broome County. I learned about how they promote economic development in the area through the assistance of their BR + E, PILOT, and Workforce Development programs. My favorite part about shadowing at The Agency was seeing how everyone is so driven and passionate about the success of Broome County. It is really amazing to see from the perspective of a student and someone who didn't grow up in Binghamton how they promote Broome County.

Broome County is truly an amazing place to be and The Agency works tirelessly to show people what it has to offer especially through their Broome is Good…a good life campaign. Overall, by shadowing The Agency I have gained an experience that I will never forget and I want to thank everyone for providing me with such a welcoming atmosphere!
