GMS Realty Pursues New Site in Kirkwood Prompting Second Public Hearing

Binghamton Business News

Back in January 2023 GMS Realty successfully completed their public hearing necessary for Board approval of the proposed project located at 219 Vestal Ave in the Village of Endicott. Due to unforeseen and significant increases in construction costs at the site, GMS Realty has elected to pursue other building solutions to bring the project to fruition while working with municipal officials to determine the best next steps for the Endicott site.

At the May 2023 meeting, The Agency Board of Directors voted to accept an application for the new project location. A testament to GMS Realty’s commitment to our community, site selectors limited their search to Broome County relocating the proposed project to 47 Pine Camp Drive in the Town of Kirkwood. The acception of this application has set in motion the timeline for a second Public Hearing for the GMS Realty project.

GMS Realty, LLP will be looking to purchase the site at 47-51 Pine Camp Drive for use by its affiliated entity, Green Mountain Electric Supply, Inc. GMES is a wholesale supplier of electrical supplies and a third-generation family-owned business since 1953. GMES will use the facility for electrical materials and supplies for its wholesale business. The facility will help fulfill its 16 New York branch locations and 2 New York distribution locations - including the recent location it opened in Binghamton on Robinson Street. As a location for its wholesale business, GMES will have material coming in from its vendors, storing it, and then shipping it out to and from its branch locations.

Green Mountain Electric Supply will not add to the 287,394-square-foot building. It will only be renovating the current building, and its approximately 48.1 acres.

Green Mountain Electric Supply is a high-growth company which takes pride in its strong ties to its local communities. They are proud of their buildings and do their best to maintain them and weave them into the fabric of the communities they call home, and the Town of Kirkwood will be no different. On top of the new development, GMES would be looking to fill at least 20 positions after the completion of this project, providing the community with well-paying jobs including warehousing positions, driving positions, and management.
