Reopening Schools Brace for Mid-Year Aid Cuts – WSKG Jillian Forstadt
Due to COVID-19, despite the cost of operations continuing to rise, schools can expect to see state budget cuts of around 20% if the state does not receive more federal aid. Reopening schools safely is an expensive and daunting task requiring the purchase of masks and other protective equipment for all staff and students, as well as remote learning software to ensure the best educational experience possible for students. Dick’s Sporting Goods Open Looks Forward to Next Year – Binghamton Homepage Cam Lavallee
In April of 2020, DSGO tournament directors made the tough decision to cancel this year’s Dick’s Open due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Knowing they would be likely unable to receive a mass gathering permit, they instead have turned their sights on planning the 2021 tournament. Tournament directors are in the process of confirming dates and isolating possible headliners for the Friday night concert, one of the event’s largest draws. Read the full article here.
Tioga County Legislature Asking Governor Cuomo to Allow Casinos to Open – Binghamton Homepage NC34 Staff
The Tioga County Legislature has passed a resolution in support of the reopening of Tioga Downs and joins many in the asking of Governor Cuomo to reopen casinos. The Town of Nichols receives about $1.2 M in revenue from Tioga Downs each year and the casino and hotel employ over 600 employees. Tioga Downs has already submitted their own safety plan, addressing many of the governor’s concerns, and hopes the casino is able to open soon. Read the full article here.

SBDC at Binghamton University Extends PPP Application Assistance Through August 8 – CNYBJ Eric Reinhardt
The New York State Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is extending its PPP advisory service through August 8th to help local small businesses understand and complete the PPP Loan Forgiveness Application process. Since mid-March, the Binghamton SBDC has provided more than 10,000 hours of service helping 720 businesses with COVID-19 assistance. Lockheed Martin Wins $16 Million Contract for Work on Systems for Anti-Submarine Rocket-Assisted Torpedoes – CNYBJ Journal Staff
Lockheed Martin Corp has been awarded a $ 16.3 million contract for work on anti-submarine rocket-assisted torpedo systems. About one quarter of the work will be completed at the Lockheed Martin plant located in Owego, NY. Read the full story here.
