NYPenn Trade Center Breaks Ground on Historic Johnson City Redevelopment

NYPenn Trade Center Breaks Ground on Historic Johnson City Redevelopment

At 435 Main Street, two century-old buildings are stepping into a new role. Originally constructed in 1915 and 1926 as a high school and gymnasium, the site is now the focus of a redevelopment that will bring new energy to the heart of Johnson City.

The NYPenn Trade Center project will introduce 58 market-rate apartments, a resident lounge, and 12,000 square feet of commercial and educational space. This mixed-use hub is designed to support both community life and economic growth, creating space for living, learning, and local business.

The Agency is proud to support this milestone through PILOT incentives that help make redevelopment possible. Projects like this reflect a broader commitment to revitalizing Broome County’s urban centers and turning underused properties into engines of opportunity.

As construction begins, the NYPenn Trade Center stands as a symbol of what’s possible when public support and private investment come together. Johnson City’s next chapter is already underway.
