The Collaboration Score Matters

Site selection is a challenging and complex undertaking. There are clear factors such as infrastructure, workforce, quality of life, etc. that can be ranked by level of importance to determine the basis for a selection. But, according to this article published on areadevelopment.com, the collaboration within a community, from public to private, plays an important role for success.
"Though less defined and more qualitative in nature, a collaboration score is the measure of the extent to which the community is fully aligned with its economic development efforts. In other words, a highly collaborative community would be one that has an agreed upon an holistic approach to business attraction and retention. All agencies, public and private, that will be involved in the successful outcome of the project are in sync and understand the project objectives. "
We agree that this idea of a "Collaboration Score" can be a difference maker in how a site is developed, and if it's successful. We recently contracted with Elan Planning Design and Landscape Architecture, based in Saratoga Springs, New York, to conduct a redevelopment study on 600 Main Street in the Town of Union, NY. Simultaneously, we are working closely with the Town of Union’s economic development and planning departments.
Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that the development of the site aligns with the Town and the County’s comprehensive plans. The only way this happens is by working together.
